All Victims Of Bantargebang Landfill Landslide Found, SAR Called Off

JAKARTA, March 10 (Bernama) -- All victims buried in a landfill landslide at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site in Bekasi, West Java, have been recovered, and the search and rescue (SAR) operation has been officially called off.

The Jakarta SAR Office said the final victim, identified as Riki Supriadi, 40, was found by a joint SAR team at about 11.30 pm local time on Monday.

“His body was evacuated to the RS POLRI Kramat Jati (National Police Hospital in Kramat Jati), East Jakarta, for further procedures,” the office said on its social media on Tuesday.

On Sunday at about 2.30 pm local time, a massive pile of garbage at the Bantargebang landfill in Ciketing Udik village, Bantar Gebang district, Bekasi city collapsed, burying several garbage trucks and stalls near the landfill area.

Thirteen people comprising residents and garbage truck drivers, were affected in the incident. Six survived. The rest were confirmed dead.

The incident was believed to have been triggered by prolonged heavy rain.

The Jakarta SAR Office said 354 personnel from multiple agencies were deployed in the SAR operation, including Basarnas Jakarta, police and military units, the Bekasi Fire and Rescue Department, the Bekasi Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), medical teams, and volunteers.
