ISTANBUL, April 3 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Three United Nations (UN) peacekeepers were injured, two of them seriously, in an explosion at a UN position in southern Lebanon, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said Friday, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
UNIFIL spokesperson Candice Ardell said in a statement that an explosion inside a UN position this afternoon near the Adaisseh area resulted in three peacekeepers being injured, two of them seriously.
She added that all the injured are being taken to hospital, noting that the source of the explosion remains “unknown.”
The wounded peacekeepers belong to the Indonesian contingent of the UN force, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported.
Ardell said the week had been “difficult” for peacekeepers operating near the central sector of UNIFIL’s area of operations, wishing the injured a full recovery.
She also reminded all parties of their obligations to ensure the safety and security of peacekeepers, including avoiding nearby combat activities that could endanger them.
