TEHRAN, Apr. 6  (Bernama-MNA) – Deputy foreign ministers of Iran and Oman have held a virtual meeting with the emphasis on the two countries' exclusive role in the Strait of Hormuz, in the face of destabilising acts by the United States and the Israeli regime, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.

The meeting was held via videoconferencing and was chaired by Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi and his Omani counterpart, Sheikh Khalifah al-Harethi , with the participation of technical and legal experts from both countries on Sunday.

The two sides reviewed and discussed the current situation in the region amid the US-Israeli war and issues related to the safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasising Iran and Oman's exclusive roles as the coastal countries of the strategic waterway.

Experts from both countries presented a set of views and proposals, which were agreed to be further examined through discussions and more meetings.

Following the launch of illegal and unprovoked US and Israeli military aggression on February 28, Iran took control of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasising that the key waterway is closed for aggressors and any country assisting them.
