VIENTIANE, April 29 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Laos has introduced key policy measures to address rising fuel prices and strengthen energy security amid ongoing instability in the Middle East, Xinhua reported.
Lao Economic Daily on Wednesday quoted Lao Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Manothong Vongsay as saying that Laos, like many other countries, has been affected by global fuel price volatility due to its heavy reliance on imported energy.
The measures outlined include reducing fuel import duties to help stabilise domestic prices, promoting the use of alternative and locally available energy sources to reduce reliance on imports, introducing flexible work arrangements such as rotating shifts to improve efficiency, and encouraging public awareness of energy conservation, including the promotion of electric vehicles and public transportation.
The government also plans to expand regional cooperation in electricity transmission networks and further study fuel supply chain mechanisms to improve long-term energy resilience.
