SEOUL, April 29 (Bernama-Yonhap) -- Hyundai Glovis Co., the logistics unit of Hyundai Motor Group, has deployed the world's largest vehicle carrier, capable of transporting up to 10,800 vehicles, to ramp up its shipping operations, Yonhap News Agency reported.

The pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), named Glovis Leader, measures 230 metres in length and 40 metres in width, with a gross tonnage of 102,590 tonnes. Its loading space is equivalent to about 28 football fields.

Hyundai Glovis said it is the first global car carrier operator to introduce a PCTC with a capacity exceeding 10,000 vehicles.

The Glovis Leader is equipped with a liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel propulsion engine and an alternative maritime power system, enabling it to comply with global environmental regulations.

The company said it plans to expand its PCTC fleet to 128 vessels by 2030, aiming to increase annual vehicle shipments from the current 3.4 million units to 5 million. The future total will represent more than 20 per cent of global vehicle shipping capacity.
