JAKARTA, May 12 (Bernama) -- Indonesia will deploy 742 personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to Lebanon on May 22 as part of the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission.
Presidential Chief of Staff Dudung Abdurachman said the deployment was part of the rotation of Indonesian peacekeeping troops, replacing the country’s contingent currently serving there.
“Of course, this is a UN mission, but more importantly, it is a mission for the Indonesian nation,” he said during a send-off ceremony at the TNI Peacekeeping Mission Centre in Sentul, West Java, on Monday.
The send-off ceremony was also attended by Foreign Minister Sugiono, Antara News Agency reported.
Dudung urged the personnel to prioritise safety, uphold Indonesia’s reputation, and carry out their duties with dedication and professionalism.
Meanwhile, Sugiono called on the troops to serve sincerely and with strong commitment in representing Indonesia abroad.
He noted that although the mission was categorised as a peacekeeping operation, the situation in Lebanon remained challenging and required vigilance, with safety remaining a top priority.
