JAKARTA, May 18 (Bernama) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Monday officiated the induction of several new military assets for the Indonesian Air Force, including six Rafale multirole combat aircraft.
Prabowo said Indonesia’s military modernisation efforts were aimed solely at safeguarding national sovereignty and maintaining regional stability.
“We have no interest other than to protect our own territory. We see that the global geopolitical situation is full of uncertainty, and we know that defence is the main prerequisite for stability,” he said at the official handover ceremony held at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, here, according to ANTARA News Agency.
During the ceremony, Prabowo symbolically handed over the keys to the six Rafale jets, four Falcon 8X aircraft, one A-400M aircraft, a GM403 Ground Control Interception (GCI) radar system, Hammer smart weapons and Meteor missiles to Indonesian Armed Forces Commander Gen Agus Subiyanto.
The six Rafale jets form part of Indonesia’s order of 42 aircraft from France’s Dassault Aviation under agreements signed in phases since 2022.
He said Indonesia would continue strengthening its defence capabilities in stages to ensure the security of its airspace, maritime territory and land borders.
