BANGKOK, May 18 (Bernama-dpa) -- The train driver involved in a deadly collision with a bus in Bangkok over the weekend was on drugs and did not hold a rail transport licence, local media reported on Monday.
Eight people were killed when the freight train struck a public bus as it was crossing railway tracks near the Makkasan Airport Rail Link station in the city's Huai Khwang district on Saturday afternoon.
The bus was dragged along and crashed into several nearby cars and motorbikes, causing them to catch fire. Photos showed thick plumes of smoke and several burnt-out vehicles.
About 30 people were injured in the incident.
The 46-year-old train driver has since been suspended, the Bangkok Post reported, citing authorities.
Thailand's traffic authority has also ordered alcohol and drug tests for all employees involved in railway operations, the daily reported.
Officials also announced an investigation into the man's supervisors who allowed him to conduct the train, according to the Post.
