Saudi Arabia Orders Shorter Adhan-To-Iqamah Intervals At Makkah Mosques, Holy Sites During Haj Season

MAKKAH, May 20 (Bernama-SPA) -- The imams and muezzins of mosques and grand mosques to shorten the waiting period between the adhan and the iqamah in all mosques and grand mosques frequented by pilgrims in Makkah, the central area and the holy sites, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The directive was issued by Saudi Arabia’s Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance Ministry and General Supervisor of the Ministry’s Haj, Umrah and Visitation Works Sheikh Abdullatif Al Alsheikh through the ministry's branch in Makkah

This comes as part of ongoing efforts to care for pilgrims and ease congestion during the 1447 AH Haj season.

The waiting period between the adhan and the iqamah for Fajr prayer was set at 15 minutes, while the interval was reduced to 5 minutes for Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha prayers.

It was also stipulated that the combined Friday sermon and prayer should not exceed 15 minutes, in consideration of crowd conditions and to ease the burden on pilgrims during peak times.

The directive is part of the operational plan implemented by the ministry to serve pilgrims during the Haj season, in response to the increasing number of pilgrims in the central area and the holy sites.

It aims to facilitate smoother movement in and around mosques and to create a suitable environment for pilgrims to perform their rituals with ease and tranquillity in a spiritual atmosphere marked by security, comfort and organisation.

It also reflecting the Kingdom’s exceptional care for the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors.
