FUYANG, May 27 (Bernama) – China’s Fuyang city in Anhui province is stepping up efforts to boost tourism and people-to-people exchanges with Asia-Pacific countries, including Malaysia, after receiving more than 43.5 million visitors last year.
Fuyang Municipal Party Committee Secretary Liu Yujie said most tourists visiting Fuyang city are from the Asia-Pacific region, reflecting steady growth in interest among regional travellers towards the city.
Liu said Fuyang has many famous scenic spots and welcome travellers from all over the world to visit, exchange and travel here.
He said stronger tourism exchanges would deepen regional understanding and promote collaboration.
“Last year, Fuyang hosted a 150-member tour group from Southeast Asia. They visited scenic attractions, sampled local cuisine and experienced the daily lives of local residents,” he said in his welcoming remarks to participants of the China International Press Communication Centre (CIPCC) Asia-Pacific media delegation recently.
The session brought together journalists from several Asia-Pacific countries, including Malaysia. Siti Zanariah Nor Zin from the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) represented Malaysia in the media fellowship programme.
Located in northwestern Anhui province, Fuyang has a registered population of 10.74 million people and serves as one of the key regional cities for Yangtze River Delta integration and development in China.
Liu said the city is leveraging its more than 2,000 years of history and cultural heritage to boost tourism and economic development.
On economic growth, he said Fuyang’s gross domestic product (GDP) increased from 282.26 billion yuan to 377.76 billion yuan during China’s 14th Five-Year Plan period, with an average annual growth rate of 5.8 per cent, higher than both national and provincial benchmarks.
“Fuyang not only has the hard power of economic growth, but also the soft power of social development, technological innovation and urban management,” he said, adding that Fuyang was listed in the 2025 China Top 100 Cities Index Report for its performance across major categories such as GDP, the digital economy, digital development and overall city competitiveness.
Liu said the city is also focusing on scientific and technological innovation, urban management and green development.
