MOSCOW, June 9 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- The Royal Navy of Oman, in coordination with the Indian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), evacuated 24 Indian sailors from a tanker off the coast of Oman that had been struck by a US missile, the Indian Coast Guard said on Tuesday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
Earlier in the day, the India Today newspaper reported that the Palau-flagged vessel MT Marivex, with 24 Indian sailors on board, was attacked by US forces off the coast of Oman. The US Central Command later confirmed that a US fighter jet fired a missile at the oil tanker for attempting to enter Iranian waters.
"On receiving information, MRCC Mumbai immediately coordinated with OMSC Oman [Oman Maritime Security Centre], ensuring the safe rescue of 24 Indian crew by Oman Navy helicopters," the coast guard said on X.
The Indian Coast Guard also said that it remains committed to protecting the lives of Indian citizens in the Indian Ocean and will continue to cooperate with friendly nations to ensure their prompt and effective rescue should the need arise.
