PUTRAJAYA, June 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has extended its deepest condolences and sympathies to the government and people of the Philippines following the devastating earthquake that struck off the coast of Sarangani in Southern Mindanao on Monday (June 8).

In a statement on Saturday, Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry, commonly known as Wisma Putra, said the country was deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives, injuries and displacement caused by the disaster.

“The government and people of Malaysia stand in solidarity with the people of the Philippines during this difficult period of grief, recovery, and rebuilding,” the statement read.

Wisma Putra said Malaysia stands ready to extend appropriate support to the government of the Philippines, should assistance be required for ongoing relief and recovery efforts.

Malaysia has also expressed its appreciation to the Philippine authorities for the assistance and cooperation extended to Malaysian nationals in the affected areas, including those residing in General Santos City and surrounding regions.
