Saudi Arabia Ready For World Cup Opener Against Uruguay, Donis Says

MIAMI, June 15 (Bernama-SPA) -- Saudi national team coach Georgios Donis said the team is ready for its FIFA World Cup 2026 opener against Uruguay, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

Speaking at a press conference at Miami Stadium, which will host the match Tuesday, Donis said: “Everyone is ready. I know Saudi football well from my previous work with clubs. We have good memories, such as reaching the round of 16 at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. We are seeking good results in the game’s biggest tournament while staying balanced and realistic.”

Donis also addressed the difficulty of Saudi Arabia’s group, which includes Uruguay, Spain, and Cabo Verde, stressing that this edition of the FIFA World Cup features a large number of teams, which is positive and gives all teams an opportunity to improve and reach the second round.

Meanwhile, the Saudi national team’s fans council announced the release of new chants with a modern collective style and creative touches as the Green Falcons begin their campaign, aiming to boost fan presence and bring an energetic atmosphere to the team’s sections in the stands during the tournament.

The council said work on the new chants came after a series of meetings and workshops involving fans and representatives of supporters’ groups from various regions of the Kingdom, reflecting the diversity of Saudi fan culture.

The council includes a number of fans who have followed the national team’s World Cup journey since its first appearance in 1994.

It said fan preparations also included coordinating efforts among supporters arriving from cities across the Kingdom and Saudi scholarship students in the United States, helping create a distinctive Saudi fan presence.
