Malaysia Supports Türkiye’s Aspiration To Become ASEAN Dialogue Partner

KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia supports Türkiye’s aspiration to become an ASEAN Dialogue Partner.

In  a statement, the Malaysian Embassy in Ankara said the message was conveyed by Malaysian Ambassador to Turkiye, Adlan Mohd Shaffieq, when he formally presented his letter of credence to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Complex on June 17.

The ambassador highlighted that Türkiye has emerged as an increasingly important partner for Southeast Asia through its growing economic engagement, strategic outlook, and expanding people-to-people ties with ASEAN member states.

He also conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Erdoğan.

The ambassador reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and strategic partnership with Türkiye, which have continued to flourish through regular high-level engagements and growing cooperation, particularly in education, defence, and the halal industry. 

“Malaysia and Türkiye share a special relationship built upon mutual trust, respect, and a common aspiration for peace, prosperity, and development.

“Building on the strong personal rapport between President Erdogan and Prime Minister Anwar, we should leverage on their shared vision to deepen collaboration across all sectors,” he said.

Erdoğan in welcoming the ambassador also expressed confidence that trade relations between both countries would continue to expand and achieve the US$10 billion target.
