Chow: Penang Govt To Check Development Status Of Taman Manggis Land With Developer

BUTTERWORTH, June 12 (Bernama) -- The Penang state government will obtain information from the developer regarding the current status of a piece of land in Taman Manggis, George Town, which is alleged to still be undeveloped despite having been sold for development purposes.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that at the moment he does not have detailed information regarding the current progress of the project, but he will seek further clarification from the developer.

"Indeed, the land has already been sold to the related company. Although I believe the planning permission was granted at some point, we have not seen any developments (for this project).

"I also want to get the latest update on what the company's plans are for developing the long-sold land," he said to reporters after officiating the opening of Galatek Technologies in the Perai Industrial Area here today.

He commented on the call by Penang Gerakan chairman Oh Tong Keong, who requested an explanation from the state government regarding the status of the land in question which he claimed was still neglected and had failed to be developed into a people's housing project.

Commenting further, Chow said the land has been owned by a company and any development implementation is the responsibility of that developer.

However, he said the state government would seek further review regarding the agreement and the status of the project's implementation before providing detailed comments.
