KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The Miss World Kebaya 2024 competition, designed to celebrate and promote the rich cultural heritage of the kebaya, will see 15 finalists competing over a 10-day journey across various venues in Malaysia.

President of the Malaysia Fashion Modelling and Pageant Association (MFMPA), Dr Jason Hee, said that throughout the competition, the finalists will participate in a variety of activities, including reality show coverage, sponsorship visits, public speaking training, makeup and catwalk training, outfit fittings, and fitness challenges.

He said the competition will kick off with opening ceremonies, cultural performances, initial pageant rounds, local tours, cultural workshops, public engagements, and photo shoots from Nov 23 to 24 at Shah’s Beach Resort in Melaka.

"On Nov 25 to 26, the competition will move to Awani Sepang Gold Coast in Selangor for beach-themed events, photo sessions, and talent showcases," he told a press conference announcing the highly anticipated World Kebaya Festival at the Wyndham Ion Majestic Hotel in Genting Highlands, Pahang, on Oct 9.

He said the final leg of the journey will take place from Nov 27 to Dec 1 at Grand Ion Delemen Hotel in Genting Highlands, where the finalists will undergo boot camps, final rehearsals, and the main pageant events.

The winner of Miss World Kebaya 2024 will be crowned on Nov 29, and the competition will culminate in the Awards Night on Dec 1, featuring the MFMPA International & The New Charismatic Successful Entrepreneur Award (TNCSEA) 2024, which will recognise excellence in fashion modelling and pageantry, while also honouring young entrepreneurs aged 20 to 30 for their achievements.

A key highlight of the press conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Miss Malaysia Kebaya (MMK) and several strategic partners, including TNCSEA, the Asia Pacific International Arts Festival, Monkii Global Holdings, and the Malaysia Women Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce.

This collaboration aims to promote cultural and artistic initiatives through the Miss Malaysia Kebaya platform, further solidifying the kebaya's cultural significance in Southeast Asia.

During the event, members of the media were also introduced to 1001 Nights Hotel, set to become Malaysia’s tallest thematic hotel, located in Genting Highlands.
