KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- Former radio presenter Maskiran Jakiran, better known as Kieran, today received a donation from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA, to help alleviate his burden as he battles prostate cancer.
At 49, Kieran is facing a significant health challenge after being diagnosed with cancer, which has spread to his stomach and lungs. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL).
The donation was presented by Malaysian National National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin. In addition to financial support, Kieran also receives daily necessities from Hari-Hari and Aeon Big.
Kieran, who made his mark as a radio presenter, began his career at Era FM from 1999 to 2008. He then moved to Hot FM and stayed for six years before joining Sinar FM in 2015 and IM4UFM in 2017.
Sharing details about his health condition, the father of three disclosed that he is currently undergoing his second chemotherapy session.
“I have four chemotherapy sessions in total, and after the second one, there have been positive signs,” he shared, with his wife, Nur Shafiyaziemah Shamudi, by his side.
Kieran explained that due to his busy work schedule and time constraints, he had not been able to undergo a medical examination earlier, and only discovered his illness last month.
“I am truly grateful for the support I’ve received. Given my current circumstances, where I am no longer working, this assistance will help cover my needs,” he said, also expressing his appreciation for being remembered as a radio presenter, despite being off-air for some time.
Meanwhile, Nur-ul Afida explained that the donation was made on behalf of Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who had wanted the aid to reach the former radio presenter as soon as possible.
“We understand the financial burden of medical treatment and related expenses, which is why we did not want to delay this contribution. Following instructions from YB (Fahmi) and the Minister's Office, we promptly came to deliver this donation to Kieran,” she said.
Kieran is one of 186 media practitioners who have benefited from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA, since its inception in April last year. During the recent Deepavali celebration, 16 media practitioners facing hardships, who were celebrating the festival, also received assistance from the fund.
Tabung Kasih@HAWANA was launched in conjunction with National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2023, to offer support to media practitioners, former media personnel, and veteran journalists who are going through difficult times.
An initiative of the Ministry of Communications, Tabung Kasih@HAWANA is implemented by Bernama, as part of ongoing efforts to assist members of the media community in need.
