KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- Having just performed at her solo concert last month, Jaclyn Victor, who is known for her powerful voice, is now ready to deliver another stunning performance at the ‘CIMB 100 Years and More Kita Bagi Jadi’ concert alongside other popular artistes on Nov 24.
The singer, whose real name is Jaclyn Joshua Thanaraj Victor, said her upcoming performance is particularly special as she will be accompanied by young musicians from the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO).
According to the winner of the first season of ‘Malaysian Idol’, performing with an orchestra brings its own unique challenges compared to performing with a band.
“With an orchestra, it’s quite challenging because you have to control a lot because every breath can be heard. There’s a lot of control, a lot of tempo because sometimes there’s no drum sound, so you really have to keep your own tempo.
“If your heart’s beating fast, every nervous stutter can be heard. The stress of performing in a solo concert is different from the stress of (performing in a) group (concert). But, at the same time, I’m excited because it’s rare to get the chance to sing with an orchestra, especially a youth orchestra,” she said after a media briefing on the ‘CIMB 100 Years and More Kita Bagi Jadi’ concert, which is being held in conjunction with CIMB Bank Bhd’s 100th anniversary.

The mother of two added that while it is challenging to perform with an orchestra in a concert, as a singer she must always be prepared to face obstacles to avoid getting stuck in her comfort zone.
She also said although she often performs her hit song ‘Gemilang’ on stage, she brings something unique to every performance.
“Although I’ve sung ‘Gemilang’ many times, the arrangement can vary, and the energy is different when I’m with an orchestra. So, I have to listen to the arrangement many times and memorise the music flow,” she said.

MPYO conductor Ahmad Muriz Che Rose said the event, also featuring young talents aged eight to 28, offers a unique experience compared to the previous concerts he has conducted.
“Usually, for concerts, we’re given songs to play, but this time we have to expand the music arrangements to follow a storyline. That’s the challenge, and it makes it (concert) more interesting; otherwise, it’s just another concert where we play music, and people come and be happy,” he said.
Meanwhile, CIMB Group chief branding and marketing officer Toni Darusman said the 100-minute-long concert will take place in the Plenary Hall, KLCC, and will feature 100 performances by young artistes to legends including Datuk Zainal Abidin, Azlan Typewriter, Hael Husaini and Dayang Nurfaizah.
“This event is so special. We are not selling tickets as it’s by invitation. We held a contest on CIMB Malaysia’s social media to give away tickets to 100 lucky winners. We will invite more than 2,000 special guests to watch the concert,” he said.
