KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) marked its 50th anniversary with a series of impactful initiatives promoting healthy living, strengthening industry ties and giving back to the community.

Among its recent activities, LIAM sponsored the annual insurance industry bowling tournament, hosted by the Asian Institute of Insurance (Aii), at Sunway Mega Lanes, attracting 175 participants from 35 teams across Malaysia’s life and general insurance companies.

LIAM announced that Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad emerged as the champion to take home RM1,500 cash and a trophy, while AIA Bhd and Zurich General Insurance Malaysia Berhad shared second place, with each taking home RM1,000 and medals.

“Sun Life Malaysia Assurance Berhad secured third place, receiving RM800 cash and a medal, while AIG Malaysia Insurance Berhad and Tokio Marine Insurans (Malaysia) Berhad placed fourth and fifth.

“The best individual bowler awards went to Isahrulisam Ibrahim of Berjaya Sompo Insurance Berhad and Nurhazimah Idris of Tokio Marine Insurans (Malaysia) Berhad,” LIAM said in a statement today.

LIAM chief executive officer Mark O’Dell highlighted the importance of the annual tournament in promoting wellness and camaraderie within the industry.

“It allows everyone, regardless of position, to engage and connect beyond the office setting. Kudos to the organisers and congratulations to all the winners,” he said, noting LIAM’s significant contributions to the life insurance industry and social protection efforts over the past 50 years.

In honour of its milestone, LIAM has launched several outreach initiatives, including a RM5 million i-MULA 50 Starter Pack Insurance Fund to provide affordable life insurance for 100,000 eligible Malaysians. The programme offers a RM50 subsidy for qualifying policies, covering death, total and permanent disability (TPD), and critical illness.

Additionally, LIAM and its 16 member companies contributed RM3.65 million to the ‘Leaving No One Behind-HPV Vaccination & Screening Programme’ in partnership with the National Cancer Society of Malaysia and the ROSE Foundation, providing free HPV vaccinations and screenings to combat cervical cancer.

To further raise awareness about life insurance, LIAM introduced social media campaigns #LifeIsFullOfSurprises and #LIAMGoldenMoments, offering cash prizes and donations to selected NGOs based on public participation and aims to contribute RM100,000 to five organisations by the end of the campaign.
