SEREMBAN, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- Orang Asli education, agriculture, and economic issues were among the topics discussed during the debate on the Supply Bill 2025 (Budget) at the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
Puan Sri Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khalid (BN-Juasseh) suggested that the Community Development Department (KEMAS) integrate digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) into its courses.
She said the initiative would enhance teaching effectiveness among KEMAS educators and help create a more efficient and competitive community in line with technological advancements.
“Developed countries are now applying AI technology not only in the economic sector but also in education. As a key institution, KEMAS must keep up with digital advancements to ensure it does not fall behind,” she said.
Datuk Mohd Razi Mohd Ali (BN-Sungai Lui) urged the government to address the dropout issue among Orang Asli students by intensifying efforts to engage with the community and highlight the importance of completing mainstream education.
He said the state government must also focus on empowering the Orang Asli community’s agricultural economy by improving the road connectivity, particularly in agricultural areas that served as their main source of income.
“Some of the Orang Asli agricultural areas are not connected by proper agricultural roads, limiting their ability to maximise their agricultural production.
“The lack of proper roads often allows dealers to take advantage by offering low prices for products sold by this community,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ridzuan Ahmad (PN-Gemas) suggested that the state government, through the Farmers’ Organisation Authority (LPP), buy rice at the current ceiling price to prevent outsiders from taking advantage of purchasing the state’s produce and selling it in other states.
“I also suggest that the state government provide mini rice machines to enable farmers to sell their harvest directly to local residents,” he said.
The state assembly sitting continues tomorrow.
