KOTA BHARU, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) today launched the MADANI Sales programme to alleviate the burden of those affected by floods in the state.
Kelantan KPDN director Azman Ismail said the programme offered discounts between 10 and 30 per cent on essential goods to flood-affected residents in the state.
“KPDN will ensure that goods are both sufficient and accessible to the public and that flood victims can obtain essential goods at a subsidised price.
“This programme also aims to curb price hikes that may result from supply issues in flood-affected areas, which could burden the people during the monsoon season,” he said in a statement today.
Azman said that the initiative was part of the MADANI Government's commitment to ensuring the people received immediate help during this difficult time.
“We will hold this sales programme in six flood-affected locations starting on Dec 2, involving the districts of Tanah Merah, Pasir Mas, Tumpat, Kuala Krai, Machang, Rantau Panjang, and Bachok.
“We also visited flood-affected areas to ensure that retailers and wholesalers have sufficient supplies,” he said.
Azman said that, in addition to the MADANI Sales programme, KPDN was organising mobile Rahmah sales in 93 locations throughout December to help ease the burden of flood victims.
“This programme offers a 30 per cent discount on essential items such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour, and other essential goods,” he said.
He added that as a measure to ensure enough basic food during floods, KPDN had appointed 133 wholesalers and retailers, each with a 30 per cent supply quota.
