KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- In conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PwD) 2024, which is celebrated today, the Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (ABIM) invites Malaysians to be more aware and empathetic towards the rights, potential and contributions of Persons with Disabilities (PwD).
ABIM, in a statement today, announced that it consistently struggles for the dignity of humans (Karamah Insaniah) regardless of the diversity of human backgrounds, whether it is the PwD group or the general public, in line with Islamic principles.
“ABIM demands that the government and private sector provide employment opportunities for the PwD group with a target of one per cent of PwD employees from the total workforce.
“Besides, ABIM wants the PwD support system to be improved in the context of infrastructure facilities, public facilities so that the PwD group can enjoy life like the rest of the community,” he said.
ABIM also welcomes the government’s noble efforts in the development of the PwD that have been presented by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, through Budget 2025 Presentation with an allocation of RM1.3 billion for the welfare, well-being and development of the PwD in Malaysia.
He said, taking up the theme of International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024, 'Empowering Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for Sustainable Inclusivity', is a recognition of individuals with disabilities in facing life's challenges.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities is celebrated every 3 December.
