MELAKA, Dec 28 (Bernama) -- The Penang @ Melaka Tour Programme, which showcases the signature products of Penang entrepreneurs such as nasi kandar, pasembur and Penang laksa, aims to achieve sales of RM210,000, according to Penang state executive councillor Datuk Rashidi Zinol.
Rashidi, who is in charge of trade, entrepreneur and rural development, said the three-day event, which began at Dataran Pantai Klebang yesterday, is expected to attract some 7,000 visitors.
He said 40 entrepreneurs specialising in food, beverages, handicrafts and agro-based products from both states are participating in the tour, which will be extended to other states after its first stop here.
“We hope the entrepreneurs we brought from Penang can benefit from Melaka’s economic opportunities, especially with the numerous programmes organised in conjunction with Visit Melaka Year 2024. This makes Melaka a popular choice for tourists during the school holidays.
“We will continue the Penang Tour Programme in several other states, including Putrajaya, Johor, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak, depending on the available budget,” he told reporters here today.
He said this after launching the Penang @ Melaka Tour Programme, which was also attended by the Melaka director of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority, Nor Azhar Abdul Hamid.
Rashidi said the tour programme serves as a platform not only to help entrepreneurs market and promote their products but also to boost tourism in the Pearl of the Orient.
He said apart from visiting the entrepreneur stalls, visitors were also entertained by cultural performances from Penang, including the boria.
