GEORGE TOWN, Dec 28 (Bernama) -- Iconic Worldwide Bhd’s subsidiary Iconic Penang Sdn Bhd today launched the Iconic Majorie Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel in Bayan Lepas, joining Marriott International's portfolio of brands, travel programmes and experiential offerings.

Iconic Worldwide managing director James Tan said that in partnership with Marriott International, Iconic Penang has developed the 298-room, five-star hotel to elevate Penang's standing as a premier destination for tourists and investors.

“This luxurious hotel is set to attract high-level travellers, significantly contributing to the growth of Penang’s tourism sector and boosting its gross domestic product, further solidifying the state's reputation on the global stage,” he said at the soft opening of the hotel here today.

Also present were Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai.

Tan noted that the Iconic Marjorie Hotel is the first hotel in Penang to achieve the prestigious gold standard of the green building index, reflecting the group’s commitment to sustainability and environmental, social, and governance principles throughout their business.

Working closely with Hirsch Bedner Associates, the group has crafted a unique architectural experience and design philosophy that pays homepage to Penang’s Baba-Nyonya culture.

Meanwhile, Chow said the growth of the tourism and hospitality sectors will unlock new opportunities for economic growth and job creation.

“This hotel, for instance, has a direct impact on the local economy, providing various employment opportunities and supporting the well-being of the surrounding community.

“We will see more opportunities for industry players, such as Iconic and Marriot, to invest and expand in Penang,” he said.

Chow further said that by fusing Peranakan culture with contemporary design, Iconic and Marriot have succeeded in creating a unique, premium destination for travellers and investors.

“I believe this hotel will undoubtedly contribute to Penang’s reputation as a global tourist destination,” he added.

The Iconic Majorie Hotel, developed with an investment of RM180 million, is the group's second hotel project, following the Iconic Hotel in Seberang Perai in 2016.

This hotel is located adjacent to the Iconic Regency, a 268-unit freehold serviced residence development by the Iconic group, which also launched today.

Marriott International has established a robust presence with over 1,000 hotels and resorts in the Asia Pacific region.
