MELAKA, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- Over 1,000 campervan and motorhome enthusiasts nationwide are set to converge in Melaka for the Caravan Jamboree, which will be held in September in conjunction with World Tourism Day (WTD) and the World Tourism Conference (WTC).
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the event would be organised in collaboration with the Malaysian Campervan and Motorhome Association to enhance the state’s tourism sector through a new attraction, namely recreational vehicles (RVs).
“We will host Malaysia’s largest Caravan Jamboree at Dataran 1Malaysia, one of the highlights of the WTD and WTC this September.
“The event is expected to become an attraction for over 155 delegations led by tourism ministers from around the world, and in turn, help attract more international visitors to the state,” he said at the official launch of the 2025 Camper Rally Melaka at the RV Park in Stadium Tun Fatimah last night.
Also present at the event were state executive councillor for Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Datuk Rais Yasin and Malaysian Campervan and Motorhome Association president Farman Othman.
Ab Rauf further emphasised the state government’s commitment to expanding the RV industry in Melaka, including enhancing campground facilities and offering more recreational camping activities.
He mentioned that a study on the RV industry in Australia has been conducted to develop caravan sites tailored to Malaysia’s environment, particularly in Melaka.
“I am proud to say that even though Melaka is only in its second year of developing this industry, we already have four caravan sites. This number will continue to grow, providing more opportunities for campervan enthusiasts to enjoy Melaka’s natural beauty,” he said.
Earlier, he shared that over 100 campervan and motorhome owners from various states have gathered at the RV Park in Stadium Tun Fatimah for a four-day event starting Thursday.
In addition to exploring Melaka’s diverse tourist spots, participants also took part in activities designed to strengthen their connections.
