KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 (Bernama) – Vietnam News Agency (VNA) is committed to further strengthening its ties with the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), particularly in addressing common issues and adopting new technology in the media industry.
VNA Director General Vu Viet Trang said VNA is looking at advancing knowledge sharing between the agencies and expanding the exchange of information beyond text and photos to include videos.
“Through technological advancements, we hope to facilitate the exchange of all types of information, transitioning from the current exchange of photos and text to videos,” she told Bernama after a courtesy call to Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin today.
Also present were Bernama’s Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj and Bernama’s Executive Editor for International News Service Mohd Shukri Ishak, who is also discharging the duties of Deputy Editor-in-Chief.
The courtesy call was held in conjunction with the four-day 54th OANA Executive Board Meeting began from Sunday (Feb 16).
Trang also said that during the courtesy call, both agencies have shared the experience in structure management as well news in the digital format.
Both news agencies have renewed an agreement in March 2022 to strengthen cooperation between the two news organisations.
“The partnership between Bernama and VNA enables both agencies to utilise each other’s news content. For example, this year, when Bernama played the role in Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN chairmanship, we see that Bernama uses VNA news in the ASEAN column. That's very good for our news agency.
“I also express our sincere thanks to Nur-ul Afida for the very effective assistance that Bernama has given to our resident correspondents in Kuala Lumpur. With the assistance from Bernama, our correspondents work very effectively,” she concluded.
Most recently, Bernama signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Cuba’s Prensa Latina and Turkiye’s Anadolu Ajansi to further strengthen media cooperation and reinforce Bernama’s role as a global news player.
Bernama is currently in the process of finalising a partnership with Mongolia’s Montsame news agency.
Bernama had already established collaborations with news agencies from Asia, the Middle East, and Eurasia, representing almost 70 per cent of the world’s population.
