KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) hosted a nationhood programme from Feb 18 to 20 to strengthen patriotism and love for the country among the residents in Eastern Sabah.

MAF Intelligence College commandant Lieutenant Colonel Maszuraidy Masduki said the programme was held at several settlements in Pulau Bum Bum, Semporna in Sabah, such as in Kampung Balimbang Utara and Kampung Terusan.

"The nationhood programme…stresses security awareness, crucial in enhancing patriotic values and love for the country as sovereign citizens.

"It also aims to reach out to those living in the country's border areas, who are far from mainland, to get equal opportunities to participate in government-hosted programmes," he said in a statement today.

Maszuraidy said 20 MAF personnel and 200 villagers were involved in the programme at Sekolah Sulabayan, Sabah, yesterday.

According to him, the activities included putting up the Jalur Gemilang in popular areas, residential neighbourhoods, schools, briefings, patriotic song performances, national-themed film screenings, quizzes on national heritage, and traditional games.

Maszuraidy stated that the MAF is responsible for safeguarding the nation's borders from intrusions and playing a vital role in humanitarian missions, including assisting victims of natural disasters.

He said the MAF strives to maintain peace in the state while addressing challenges such as smuggling and the influx of illegal immigrants.

"Our country remains peaceful due to the cooperation between the MAF and the people. It is our collective duty to safeguard national peace," he added.
