GOF Central Brigade Records Seizures Worth Over RM1.12 Bln As Of Oct 13

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- The General Operations Force (GOF) Central Brigade enjoyed extraordinary success when it recorded seizures worth over RM1.12 billion as of Oct 13 this year - the result of various operations to curb cross-border smuggling and criminal activities.

GOF Central Brigade Commander SAC Hakemal Hawari said the seizures involved various items, including e-waste, liquor, cigarettes, palm oil, fireworks, as well as those from "Operasi Bersepadu Khazanah” (OBK).

"The total seizure, so far, is RM1,129,600,000, with the highest amount previously recorded by the GOF Central Brigade Headquarters being RM465.2 million,” he told a media conference here yesterday.

He also said that Battalion 5 recorded seizures worth RM305.3 million, followed by Battalion 6 (RM150.6 million), Battalion 19 (RM116.9 million) and Battalion 4 (RM91.6 million).

In addition, Hakemal said enforcement actions also led to the busting of syndicates smuggling in illegal foreigners with the detention of 774 individuals, involving nationals from Myanmar (77 people), Bangladesh (66), Indonesia (628) and Nepal (three).

Meanwhile, he said a total of 26 cases under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007 were also recorded, involving the detention of 37 individuals, including 10 Malaysians, 24 Indonesians and three Bangladeshis.

"The influx of illegal immigrants can have a huge impact on the social, economic, security, health and political stability of the country

"As such, the public is urged to continue channelling information related to crime and suspicious activities to the police to assist us in our efforts to curb these illegal activities,” he said.
