SEPANG, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- A total of 18 national athletes who will participate in the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, scheduled to be held from Dec 9-20, will sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) this year after the biennial sports games end.
Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said of the total, 17 of them are candidates from government schools while another is a private candidate who will sit for the SPM, scheduled to start from Nov 3 - Dec 23.
“The National Sports Council (NSC) has discussed with the Ministry of Education (MOE) to finalise the (SPM exam) schedule where they will compete first (in the 2025 SEA Games) and then 17 candidates will sit for the SPM exam at MSN (Bukit Jalil).
“For another athlete, who is a private candidate, the MOE wants the athlete to submit a private application directly to the Examination Board and the MOE will coordinate for the candidate,” she said at a press conference of the AEON Credit SIC Racing MSI team and machinery represented by talented national rider Muhammad Hakim Danish here, today.
Hakim Danish will make his Moto3 debut via a wildcard at the 2025 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (GP Malaysia) at the Sepang International Circuit here, starting from Oct 24-26.
Hannah also said that it is her ministry’s commitment to continue to help all 18 athletes involved so that they do not miss out on the SPM exam this time while also focusing on the challenge of representing the country at the 2025 SEA Games.
MSN will work with the Ministry of Education, especially the Examination Board, for the process of athletes sitting for the SPM.
Yesterday, chief de mission of the 2025 Thailand SEA Games contingent, Nurul Huda Abdullah expressed concern over the participation of 18 national athletes scheduled to sit for the SPM examination this year which clashes with the date of the Games.
The 2025 SEA Games are scheduled to be held in three regions, namely Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla.
