GEORGE TOWN, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) has received the Malaysia Water Award for Management 2025 from the Malaysian Water Association (MWA), recognising its excellence in water supply management, marking the fourth time it has earned the honour.
PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk K. Pathmanathan said the award was based on several performance benchmarks, including the company’s 2024 key performance indicators (KPIs), which exceeded national averages.
In a statement today, he said the recognition also reflected PBAPP’s implementation of six ISO-certified management systems covering quality, environmental management, occupational safety and health (OSH), information security, water testing and water meter calibration.
Other contributing factors included the company’s commitment to data-driven public communications, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting, as well as the implementation of its RM2.1 billion Water Contingency Plan 2030 (WCP 2030). The plan involves eight major infrastructure projects and the development of three secondary raw water sources in Seberang Perai.
“This award is a testament to the dedication of PBAPP’s 1,540-strong workforce. It’s an honour to be recognised as one of Malaysia’s leading water supply operators,” Pathmanathan said.
The award was presented by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof to Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who also chairs PBAPP, at the MWA 2025 Annual Dinner and Awards Night in Kuala Lumpur last night.
PBAPP took home a crystal challenge trophy, an award plaque and RM5,000 in cash.
Meanwhile, PBAPP’s parent company PBA Holdings Bhd also earned national recognition, winning two accolades at The Edge Centurion Club Awards 2025, for the Highest Growth in Profit After Tax (PAT) over three years and Highest Shareholder Return over five years, in the telecommunications, media and utilities category for listed companies with a market capitalisation under RM1 billion.
MWA is a non-profit organisation that represents Malaysia’s water industry and advocates for sustainable water supply management.
