KUCHING, Oct 18 (Bernama) -- Minister of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri expressed support for the new standard operating procedure (SOP) announced by the government to ensure that all cases involving minors are resolved within a year.
Media reported today that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said made the announcement of the initiative, which among other matters, is to strengthen child protection and ensure that cases are managed more systematically.
Nancy said her ministry supports the implementation of the SOP because it is in line with the federal ministry's responsibility in safeguarding the welfare of children.
“That is indeed one of our wishes. We cannot interfere with the jurisdiction under the Legal Division, so when they were the first to suggest it, we rendered support.
“Although the jurisdiction lies under the Legal Affairs Division, this procedure greatly helps my ministry to ensure that all administrative and support measures for children are carried out correctly,” she said.
She stressed that cooperation between relevant ministries is important to ensure that every child-related case, whether a child is victim or the accused, can be resolved efficiently and adheres to legal guidelines.
Azalina was reported to have said that the guidelines will be launched on Oct 24 at the Palace of Justice to strengthen the justice system for minors in the country.
