Defamation Suit: Decision On Hannah Yeoh's Appeal To Be Known On Dec 5

21/10/2025 06:58 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- The Court of Appeal today set Dec 5 for the decision on Segambut Member of Parliament Hannah Yeoh's appeal regarding the High Court's decision dismissing her defamation suit against former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan regarding statements at a forum at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

Lawyer Lim Wei Jiet, who represents Hannah, told reporters that the date for the decision was set by Court of Appeal deputy registrar Radzilawatee Abdul Rahman at the e-Review case management proceedings today, which was also attended by lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, representing Musa.

On Oct 17, a three-judge panel of the Court of Appeal consisting of Datuk Azimah Omar, Datuk Dr Choo Kah Sing and Datuk Dr Shahnaz Sulaiman adjourned the appeal decision after hearing submissions from all parties involved.

Hannah, who is also the Minister of Youth and Sports, filed an appeal against the High Court's decision here on Dec 23, 2024, which dismissed her suit against Musa.

Judicial Commissioner Arziah Mohamed Apandi made the decision after finding that Hannah failed to prove that the statement made by Musa was defamatory.

In 2020, Hannah filed a suit against Musa over the statement at the forum on Jan 30, 2020.

Hannah claimed that Musa, in his speech, among other things, accused her of writing her book titled Becoming Hannah with the aim of making Malaysia a Christian country, having connections with Christian and Jewish missionaries to undermine Islam and Malaysia, and prioritising her personal interests over the country.
