KOTA BHARU, Oct 21 (Bernama) -- A four-year-old girl died of heat stroke in Tanah Putih, Gua Musang, yesterday.
Gua Musang District Police Chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said the child was found unconscious inside a car.
He said police received a report on the incident at 3.50 pm from a man who informed them about finding the girl.
“The victim was taken to Gua Musang Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“A post-mortem determined that the cause of death was heat stroke,” he said in a statement today.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and has been classified as sudden death, with investigations ongoing.
Sik advised the public not to speculate on the incident to avoid confusion.
“Parents and guardians are reminded to always ensure their children’s safety and not to leave them unattended, especially inside vehicles.
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to come forward to assist in the investigation by contacting the Gua Musang Police Station at 09-9121222 or the nearest police station.
Meanwhile, Kelantan Health Department director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said the child's case was the first of its kind this year in the state.
When contacted by Bernama today, he said that based on initial information, the girl was believed to have been in the car for three to four hours before losing consciousness.
