KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- The signing of the historic Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord between Thailand and Cambodia marks a significant milestone that reflects Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s adept diplomacy and his efforts to position ASEAN as a beacon of enduring peace and regional stability, said Amanah.
Its deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa praised Anwar’s leadership as the ASEAN Chair this year for successfully guiding the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, which began on Oct 26 and concludes today.
"As Malaysians, we should take pride in this historic diplomatic success which resolved a long-standing border dispute between two ASEAN nations," he said in a statement today.
He said Malaysia continues to take a firm stand in defending the rights of the Palestinian people, rejecting Israel’s illegal occupation and maintaining a strict policy of having no diplomatic or trade ties with the regime.
At the same time, he said Malaysia’s diplomatic wisdom calls for continued engagement and negotiation with major powers to strengthen the national economy while safeguarding sovereignty and dignity.
Mujahid said Anwar’s dual-track diplomacy approach balancing Malaysia’s and ASEAN’s strategic interests while standing firm on humanitarian principles reflects the policy of “cooperation for mutual benefit, principles for national dignity”.
Amanah fully supports this balanced diplomacy that embodies the party’s political philosophy of ethics, dignity and wisdom, rejecting narrow identity politics based on race or religion that ignores national interest and global realities, he said.
