Malaysia, China Expand Strategic Partnership In Anti-graft Efforts

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the National Commission of Supervision of the People’s Republic of China (NCS) have agreed to strengthen cooperation and expand strategic partnerships in efforts to combat corruption at the international level.

The matter was discussed in a bilateral meeting held in conjunction with the 14th Assembly of Parties of the International Anti-Corruption Academy at the Vienna International Centre in Vienna on Monday.

The MACC delegation was led by Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, while the Chinese delegation was headed by Secretary and Deputy Dean of the China Academy of Discipline Inspection and Supervision, Liu Shuo.

In a statement today, Azam said such cooperation provided both parties an opportunity to exchange views, enhance capabilities and develop new, more effective approaches to combating corruption on the global stage.

He said the NCS also expressed interest in learning from MACC’s experience in corruption investigations, including new approaches in prevention, public education and asset recovery.

The meeting also saw a mutual agreement to explore collaboration opportunities under the Belt and Road initiative, including providing support and positive interventions in international meetings related to anti-corruption efforts.

Also present were MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman and MACC Policy, Planning and Research Division director Datuk Rasidah Abdul Karim.
