KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- The media is an important strategic partner to the government in disseminating information and creating awareness about environmental sustainability.
Secretary-General of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), Datuk Dr Ching Thoo Kim, said the ministry appreciates the close relationship with media practitioners who tirelessly help promote NRES programmes to the public.
"We at the ministry regard the media as 'the fourth government,' and imagine if we lived in this world without Facebook, TikTok, and so on, our world would become a dark world," he said while speaking at the NRES Media Appreciation Ceremony here tonight.
He said the media's role has proven effective in triggering public awareness on critical issues related to the environment and wildlife.
“One of the issues that received wide coverage, if we recall what happened on Mother's Day, was the incident where a five-year-old baby elephant was tragically hit and killed on the Gerik road, and that received extensive coverage,” he said.
The NRES Media Appreciation Ceremony was held as a token of appreciation for media practitioners who have provided extensive coverage and strong cooperation to the ministry throughout the year.
Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Secretary-General (Natural Resources) Datuk Mas Rizal Mohd Hilmi, Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, Chief Editors, Editors, and more than 200 media practitioners from 25 local media agencies.
