PENAMPANG, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- Accelerating the implementation of flood mitigation projects in the Moyog constituency is the main focus of Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Remysta Jimmy Taylor in the 17th Sabah State Election.
He said the priority is in line with the needs of residents in the constituency within the Penampang parliamentary area, who frequently face flooding that disrupts their daily lives.
“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced funding to prepare for this flood mitigation project here.
“This must be fast-tracked because settlements in this area are often affected by flooding,” he told reporters at a community engagement programme for the Moyog state constituency at Pasar Tamu Donggongon today, which was attended by PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar.
Remysta also said he will focus on ensuring that infrastructure improvement projects in the constituency are carried out as quickly as possible if given the mandate in this election.
Under Budget 2026, Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, announced a total allocation of RM6.9 billion for Sabah, including RM765 million for the construction of the Southern Link power line, RM220 million for the repair of infrastructure damaged by recent natural disasters, and RM39 million for Phase 2 of the flood mitigation projects in Sabah.
On his first participation in the political arena, Remysta admitted he felt nervous but said the support from PKR and PH leadership motivated him to continue providing the best service to residents.
“Of course, being a first-time candidate, I was a bit nervous, but with the support of the Deputy President present here on the ground, it made me very happy. We were able to visit and listen to the issues faced by the community,” he said, adding that PH’s campaign preparation and operations have been running smoothly so far.
The Moyog constituency, which has 31,083 registered voters, will see a 12-cornered contest in the polls. The seat was previously won by Datuk Ignatius Darell Leiking under the Warisan ticket with a majority of 5,935 votes.
Polling is fixed for Nov 29, while early voting is on Nov 25.
