JAKARTA, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Indonesia will launch a nationwide Christmas-New Year shopping campaign offering discounts of up to 80 per cent, with an additional 11 per cent off for foreign tourists who present their passports from Dec 18, 2025 to Jan 4, 2026.

Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said the Belanja di Indonesia Aja (BINA) Indonesia Great Sale 2025 aims to spur year-end travel and domestic spending, with a transaction target of 30 trillion rupiah (US$1.8 billion).

More than 380 companies, 80,000 outlets and 800 brands across over 400 malls in 24 provinces are joining the campaign, organised by the Tourism Ministry together with the Indonesian Retailers and Shopping Centre Tenants Association (HIPPINDO) and the Indonesian Shopping Centre Management Association (APPBI).

“Shopping is a crucial motivation for tourism,” Widiyanti said in a statement, noting that foreign visitors spent 11.4 per cent of their average US$1,391 per trip on souvenirs last year.

HIPPINDO chairman Budihardjo Iduansjah said the discounts, starting from 20 per cent with an additional 11 per cent for foreign visitors, aim to make Indonesia a preferred shopping destination once again.

APPBI chairman Alphonzus Widjaja said Christmas and New Year form the second-biggest retail window after Ramadan and Eid, adding that the sale could lift year-end economic growth.
