KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- The 2025 Parliamentary Caucus No. 1 will be held this Thursday to discuss the implications of the Malaysia-United States Agreement on Reciprocal Trade which was signed on Oct 26.
The caucus will be chaired by Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar). According to a statement from the Malaysian Parliament, the caucus also aims to raise awareness among members of parliament (MPs) and the public about the disruption of global trade due to changes in US trade policies.
“The caucus is also to provide awareness in assessing the direct and indirect impact of reciprocal tariffs on Malaysia, monitor developments in US trade policies, particularly in relation to tariffs on Malaysian exports, and propose appropriate initiatives to protect national interests,” the statement said.
The Parliamentary Caucus on the imposition of US Reciprocal Tariffs on Malaysia was established at a Special Meeting of the Dewan Rakyat held on May 5, 2025, which serves as a bipartisan platform in parliament to engage and provide input to the government in formulating a comprehensive national strategy.
Its membership consists of MPs from both the government and opposition blocs.
The selection of members for the government bloc was determined by the chairman of the Backbenchers Club (BBC), while for the opposition bloc it was determined by the Opposition Leader.
