LABUAN, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- Demolition works on the iconic Hotel Labuan, the island’s oldest hotel landmark, are progressing smoothly and in compliance with strict safety standards, Labuan Corporation (LC) chief executive officer Mohd Sukuran Taib said today.
He said the demolition exercise, which kicked off in August 2025, is being undertaken with careful planning to avoid disruptions to the surrounding area, particularly given the hotel’s central location and structural condition.
“The contractor is experienced and capable, and we are monitoring the entire process closely to ensure the demolition is carried out in accordance with all safety SOPs and environmental requirements. Public safety remains the priority,” he told Bernama.
Sukuran said the demolition is being executed in phases and is scheduled for completion within 36 weeks.
Hotel Labuan, once a popular accommodation during the island’s early development years, had long stood vacant due to structural deterioration. Its removal will pave the way for redevelopment efforts aimed at rejuvenating the town centre.
