Two Held Over Mischief By Fire Cases In Melaka

MELAKA, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- Two individuals have been arrested to assist in investigations into a mischief by fire case at Lorong Laksamana Cheng Hoe, Bukit Cina here.

Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Christopher Patit said in the incident, which occurred around 1.45 am on Nov 11, closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed a vehicle repeatedly driving around the housing area.

“A man was then seen walking towards a house and throwing a lit object into the compound, triggering a fire that damaged the victim’s vehicle.

“Following investigation and intelligence work, police arrested two suspects, a man and a woman aged 26 and 36, in Kajang and Serdang, Selangor, at 8.30 pm last Monday,” he said in a statement here today.

Christopher said that with the arrests, police believe they have solved at least three mischief by fire cases and one paint-splashing incident involving houses around Melaka Tengah between July and November this year.

He said both suspects have been remanded until next Tuesday to assist investigations under Section 436 of the Penal Code.
