IPOH, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Local music maestro Datuk M Nasir will be headlining the Gendang Pati charity concert at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Tanjong Malim on Jan 17.
UPSI vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff said M Nasir will perform 16 songs in about two hours during the concert, which will be held at Dewan Tuanku Canselor, Sultan Azlan Shah Campus.
The concert, featuring the concept of drums, is the singer’s social contribution to the university after he received his honorary doctorate in performing arts at the university’s 26th convocation last year, he added.
“This concert is not only an art performance, but a great honour for UPSI and academicians as it reflects M Nasir’s willingness to give back to the education sector.
"The songs he will perform include his famous hits Pawana, Phoenix Bangkit, Tanya Sama Itu Hud-Hud, Langgam Pak Dogol, Melawan Arus and Kias Fansuri,” he said in a statement today.
In addition, the band Gong, led by Aznan Alias will perform a selection of popular songs such as Sentuhan Listrikmu, Dah Lagu Tu, Rajawali Terbang Tinggi, Yang Bertakhta Akhirnya, Suatu Masa and Raikan Cinta, Md Amin said.
“Four songs - Sahabat Gua, Semerah Padi, Inang Bujang dan Dara and Inang Pulau Kenchana - will be performed as a medley, and there will be a special performance by UPSI’s de Vokalis group featuring the song Mustika and two other songs that only the concert audience will know,” he added.
Meanwhile UPSI’s Music and Performing Arts Faculty Dean, Assoc Prof Dr Muhammad Fazli Taib Saearani said the concert is UPSI’s platform to ensure arts and culture are part of the national education ecosystem.
“This concert inspires performing arts graduates and brings them closer to an arts icon who has coloured the local musical landscape for over four decades,” he added.
Tickets can be booked via t2u.asia/e/46312 and further information is available on UPSI’s official social media channels.
