KUANTAN, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The Pahang government will channel over RM250,000 in incentives to 844 athletes who bring glory to the state under the 'Makmur Pahang’ Athlete initiative.
State Communications and Multimedia, Youth and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal described the initiative as an appreciation of their sacrifices, determination and commitment to undergoing training and representing the state in various championships.
"This initiative is in recognition of athletes who always strive to improve their performance. We hope this will boost their spirit and commitment to continue to excel,” he told a media conference on the Makmur Initiative (Athletes 2025) ceremony at a hotel here today.
On Pahang athletes bound for the SEA Games Thailand 2025, Fadzli said 78 state athletes will be competing in the biennial Games, and that he is scheduled to leave for Thailand after the State Legislative Assembly sitting next week to provide support.
The SEA Games Thailand 2025 will be held from Dec 9-20 in Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla.
Fadzli also said that preparations for the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor are going smoothly, with the final list of athletes expected to be finalised by January.
"In the previous SUKMA in Sarawak, we sent over 700 athletes. This time, for the Selangor SUKMA, we intend to send more than 800 athletes,” he said.
He added that the Pahang Sports Council Management Council meeting had also agreed to appoint Kemayan state assemblyman Khaizulnizam Mohd Zuldin as the state's chef de mission for SUKMA 2026.
SUKMA 2026 will be held in Selangor from Aug 15-24.
