SEREMBAN, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The temporary solid waste collection centre in Kampung Keru, Tampin is expected to be operational by the end of 2027, said state Local Government Development, Housing and Transport Committee chairman J. Arul Kumar.

He said the 26.7 hectares (65 acres) area proposed for the centre's construction is currently in the process of land acquisition and project implementation would commence once it is completed.

"We were informed that the land acquisition also involves land owned by individuals so it will take time, once everything is completed, the construction work will be carried out immediately and we expect the centre to be fully completed in two years.

"The centre will function as a transit for compactor lorries before all solid waste from the Jempol, Tampin, Kuala Pilah areas is sent to the landfill in Tanah Merah, Port Dickson," he told reporters after officiating the Appreciation Ceremony of SWCorp Negeri Sembilan 2025 Synergy Partners, the MADANI Green Initiative Catalyst here today.

On April 29, he was reported to have said that the federal government planned to develop a solid waste transfer station in Tampin as a temporary solid waste collection centre.

Meanwhile, Arul Kumar, who is also the Nilai state assemblyman, said that 155 illegal landfills had been successfully closed as of October, and that his party would continue to carry out operations and enforcement to ensure that no new ones were opened after this.
