KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Marhamah Rosli is determined to use her experience in welfare and community work to strengthen religious institutions and empower Muslim women under the MADANI Government.

Describing her appointment following the Cabinet reshuffle as a significant responsibility, she said she would give her full commitment to supporting the development of policies and the implementation of religious affairs agendas in a manner that is more accessible to the people.

“My focus is on bringing religion closer to the people. I do not want society to see religion as something overly punitive.

“I want people to feel that religion should be a natural part of daily life, including in matters concerning personal challenges and emotions,” she said when met here today.

Earlier, a total of seven ministers, including two new appointees, and eight newly appointed deputy ministers, including Marhamah, took their oath of office before His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia at Istana Negara.

Marhamah also expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for entrusting her with the responsibility.

She assured that she would fulfil the mandate to the best of her ability and hoped for the support of all parties in developing Islamic institutions in the country.

“I hope to be given the opportunity and space to give my full commitment, utilising my capacity to serve society, religion, the nation, and the country. God willing,” she said.
