Moderate Earthquake Hits North Molucca Sea

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- A moderate category earthquake with the magnitude of 5.8 hit the north of Molucca Sea at 8.21 pm tonight.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the earthquake occurred at 1.5 degrees North and 126.4 darjah East at a depth of 10 kilometres (km), about 131 km east of Bitung, Indonesia, the department said in a statement today.

There is no threat of tsunami hitting Malaysia due to the earthquake, it added.
