GEORGE TOWN, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in Penang has taken three rescued Indonesian fishermen into custody after a tanker saved them at sea.
The agency had acted on a report from the Maritime Rescue Sub-Coordination Centre in Langkawi, received around 9 pm, stating the tanker MT Orkim Harmony had rescued the men in the waters off Pulau Indah, Selangor.
In a statement tonight, MMEA state director Maritime Capt Muhammad Suffi Mohd Ramli said the victims' boat had capsized during a fishing trip on Dec 20 due to bad weather.
They had been adrift for about two days before the tanker found them.
The men, aged 31 to 41, from Dumai, Indonesia, are now at the State Maritime Headquarters. After their statements are recorded, they will be handed over to the Indonesian Consulate General for further action.
