GEORGE TOWN, Jan 11 (Bernama) -- Penang FC notched up their second consecutive Super League win by routing Melaka FC 5-0 at City Stadium here this evening.
The home team secured their victory in a commanding on-field performance, raking up four goals in a matter of 14 minutes in the first half alone, with a brace of goals each by team captain Stefano Brundo and Australian striker Dylan Wenzel-Halis.
Stefano put his team in the lead early in the game with a free kickthat beat Melaka FC goalkeeper Muhammad Firdaus Irman Mohd Fadhil, and scored his second five minutes later.
Dylan did not take long to get on the scoresheet, scoring Penang FC’s third goal two minutes later when he intercepted a short cross by the Melaka FC defence, and then scored his second in the 14th minute to put the match way beyond their rivals’ reach.
Melaka FC was unable to reply as pressure mounted in the first half, but fared similarly in the second half, even though the team created several chances to score.
Penang FC capped their win with their fifth goal late in the match, when Nigerian Faith Friday Obilor scored to allow the home team to jump to ninth in the league standings, ahead of Sabah with better goal advantage, although tied with 14 points each.
