KINABATANGAN, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Lamag state by-election, Mohd Ismail Ayob, said close cooperation between the state and parliamentary elected representatives from the government would be key to resolving basic infrastructure issues faced by residents in the Lamag constituency.
He said such cooperation would facilitate the channelling of allocations and ensure continuous development for the area.
As such, he called on voters to support candidates from the government party in the coming by-election for the Lamag state seat and the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat to ease the implementation of development projects.
“The solution is to elect government party candidates so that the people’s voices can be effectively brought to the State Assembly and Parliament, including addressing housing issues that require the attention of the Member of Parliament.
“That is why voters should support the BN candidate for the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat, Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar,” he said during a community programme with Lamag constituents in Kampung Sungai Lokan here today.
Mohd Ismail also gave the assurance that efforts to provide a clean water supply to villagers, who currently rely on rainwater harvesting, would be realised within the next five years.
Meanwhile, Telupid assemblyman Datuk Jonnybone J. Kurum, who is also Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Youth chief, said voters in Lamag would incur a significant loss if they elected an opposition representative.
He urged the voters to give their mandate to the BN candidate to ensure development continuity and the comprehensive implementation of planned initiatives.
The Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election is a three-cornered contest involving Mohd Kurniawan Naim, Warisan candidate Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman and an independent candidate Goldam Hamid.
Meanwhile, the Lamag state by-election will be a straight fight between Mohd Ismail and Mazliwati Abdul Malek, of Warisan.
Both by-elections were called following the death of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, 66, on Dec 5 last year.
The Election Commission has set tomorrow for early voting, with the polling day this Saturday.
