KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- The national men's badminton squad had no trouble overcoming the first hurdle of the 2026 Badminton Asia Team Championship (BATC) campaign in Qingdao by beating Myanmar 5-0 today.
In the action held at the Conson Gymnasium, Qingdao Sports Centre, national men's singles player Justin Hoh contributed the country's first point by defeating Hein Htut 21-18, 21-19 in 48 minutes.
Eogene Ewe then also put Malaysia ahead 2-0 after eliminating Nyan Shaine Lin in straight sets, 21-10, 21-14.
The national squad continued to extend their lead to 3-0 through Kong Wei Xiang who easily defeated Lal Zuidika 21-11, 21-11 before the national men's doubles Aarn Tai-Roy King Yap defeated Myanmar's Nyan Shaine Lin-Phone Htet Zaw 21-11, 21-9, thus strengthening the country's lead to 4-0.
Another national men's doubles Choong Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal Nazri then completed a 5-0 victory by defeating Phyo Thurain Kyaw-Lal Zuidika 21-9, 21-7.
Malaysia is scheduled to meet the real challenge, Indonesia in the final match of Group D tomorrow.
Only the top two groups will qualify for the quarter-finals.
